Foreign companies entering Japanese market 


Situation 

NY based American marketing agency opened a Japanese branch in August 2018 with focus on the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. I’ve been asked to help them establish their presence in Japan, as one of 3 founding members of the team. 

Task 

Work with the Managing Director of the Japan/Asia business and US expatriate to support the business with the following tasks;

• Pith and secure clients. 

• Manage expectations of US head office by providing local insights and information on unique Japanese business practices.

• Build a relationship with their sister PR company. 

Result

• Global fashion brand company appointed the agency as their global partner, to manage the Olympic & Paralympic sponsorship campaign for Tokyo 2020. 

• Agency has been tasked to 1) work with the Olympic and Paralympic committee 2) athlete management 3) the development of a marketing strategy leveraging the partnerships.

• US staff have a greater understanding of how business is done locally in Japan and are now working more effectively as one team.
