Japanese companies entering foreign market


Situation 

Japanese confectionary packaging company, successfully operating for over 80 years in domestic market (Japan), with annual sales of USD $15M was looking to expand their business overseas for the first time. I was assigned as an advisor responsible for their overseas expansion.  I provided one year of hands-on support in building business strategy and developing overseas sales channels.

Task 

Work directly with the owner of the business to action the following;

• Develop a business plan for overseas expansion

• Facilitate market research

• Support negotiation with potential local business partners (in this case it was Paris) 

Result

• First EU business plan developed (company now has a template for future use) 

• Business plan written based on market insights, drawn from the research 

• Secured 8 customers who are interested in trialing their packaging 

• First container of packaging goods shipped to EU, 6 months after our visit to Paris
